What to wear to... meet the parents

I received the following email:
Hi Chantilly! I have seen a few of your blog posts, and I really like the post on what to wear with coated denim (hopefully that’s a type of post you do more often because it is awesome) maybe you can also do advice for specific events. Which is why I am writing; can you help me? Please please please! I will be meeting my boyfriend’s parents in the next few weeks for the first time to celebrate his mom’s birthday. To make matters worse it will be for a whole weekend because they live about 5 hours away, I will probably also see people my boyfriend went to school with. I want to make a good impression but also maintain a sense of style. Thank you! Michele
Surprisingly my email for my new business has gotten quite a few similar requests, which I will be answering as soon as possible. If you want to email me please feel free, until my website is set up I will be using styledbylondon@live.ca , please include your body type, event and lifestyle. I do not want to suggest something you wouldn’t wear!!! I will not post the entire email just enough to get a sense of why I chose certain items for you.
Now to the task at hand, meeting the parents for the first time! When you are going to be meeting anyone you want to make a good impression & the LAST thing that you want to worry about is your clothes. You should project confidence and let’s be honest a lot of our confidence comes from our clothing.
The outfits I have chosen for you each are fashionable enough to make you feel fashionable but understated to ensure the real focus is on you, not your clothes!

1.       I chose a royal blue scuba skater dress as skater dresses are extremely flattering and quite in style. Old Navy has a sale currently on bright dresses. I chose to pair the dress with opaque tights and shorties (short booties). For the accessories I kept the purse classic and the jewelry simple. I love the detail on the watch with the link strap. I would wear this outfit to the birthday dinner.

2.       You mentioned that your boyfriend’s parents live 5 hours away this is a very casual traveling outfit or good for sightseeing (I am sure your boyfriend and his parents want to show you around his hometown). Dark straight leg jeans, wedge boots, a tank and cardigan are simple – I think most ladies can find this in their closets and not even have to hit up a store. This outfit is punched up with the royal blue tank and orange purse (clearly I like royal blue right now!) Dainty silver earrings and a large link silver bangle (and I must like links too!) are perfect for this outfit, personally I feel silver is easier to pair with a more casual outfit. These $45 boots are a hands down steal from Delia’s

3.       I love the wine double Strap Mary Janes! They add punch to an otherwise quite neutral outfit. I think the leather skirt is beyond perfect and would be a versatile addition to any closet, paired with a simple turtleneck and thin heart ring this look is fashionable without screaming look at me!!! The bag however is a dream bag, this Hermes Birkin bag would break most budgets at $10,500 but there are lots of bags that are the same shape, such as this bag from Aldo Accessories. At $55 it is a lot more budget friendly. This outfit is great for brunch.

4.        I love paper bag pants; I wear mine with loafer and rolled up cuffs. In colder months a simple black court shoe does the trick. Tuck in a sheer button up blouse (please pair this with a camisole!) add a belt and you are good to go! Smaller gold hoops with details (these are little belts from Michael Kors and an envelope clutch add to the outfit without overdoing it. I would wear this to a gastropub or lounge.

Hope this helps! Have fun and remember although clothes are great your boyfriend is introducing you to two of the most important people in his life, be you and I am sure they will love you! As always click the pictures below to be taken to the website.
